While it is believed that Sharks MC members were present at the 1947 4th of July Weekend Gypsy Tour events in Hollister, California, evidence indicates the Sharks MC was not formally established until August 11, 1948. The Sharks MC was founded by returning WWII veterans, sharing their love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and their search for excitement and adventure. The Sharks Motorcycle Club was founded in Los Angeles, and participated in racing events throughout Southern California.
The Sharks MC was one of the pioneer clubs in the original Southern California racing scene, and raced along side the Boozefighters, Yellow Jackets, 13 Rebels, and others.
By the early 1950's many of the original MCs had disappeared as quickly as they were created. It's believed that these post-war thrill seekers quickly traded in their racing and rowdy ways for wives, families, and "real jobs." While the Sharks and other clubs had firmly made their marks on history, most of the clubs faded into the past, never to be heard from again.
For decades, a few of the original MCs have continued to flourish, or have been re-established...while the Sharks MC has lived on only in a few black & white photographs and fascinating stories of the good ol‘ days. Jack Jordan, the last known surviving member of the Sharks MC passed away in 2014, but the spirit and adventure of the Sharks Motorcycle Club has been reborn.
75 years ago, these men sought camaraderie and brotherhood, around their love of motorcycles and their need for adventure. Today, this same spirit lives on! We hold the greatest respect for the past, and honor the traditions that have been established by those who paved the way.
Sharks MC is an American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Historic Club, and our members support the AMA. Sharks MC charters are given the freedom to operate as they see fit, and are encouraged to share the joy of motorcycling in the best interests of their members...be it on the highway, on the trail, or on the track.
We're a historic, social MC. We are a male-only club, but welcome family and friends to share in the fun. We ride cruiser and touring bikes that are at least 850cc. We respect and honor MC history and protocol, and those who came before us. We recognize our lane, and we stay in it. We're all about motorcycles, camaraderie, and good times! Our Constitution and By-Laws govern our club, yet still allow chapters the freedom to operate in the best interests of their members.
If you're interested in becoming part of the rich history of the Sharks MC...and paving the future, please contact us about finding or creating a chapter near you. Brotherhood and camaraderie come in all shapes and sizes. So, whether you're interested in racing, bar-hopping, or riding all-day, everyday; you have a place in the Sharks MC!
